Hello and welcome to my blog. First off, let me introduce myself. My name is Curtis Mohr, K5CLM. I hold an Amateur Extra class license. I have been a ham radio operator since 1995. I am involved in the local Skywarn/RACES/ARES organizations in Johnson County, TX and I am currently serving as Vice-President for Texas Adventist Emergency Communication or TAEC for short. Shortly after getting my license, I helped organize this club and have been an officer in some capacity ever since.
Over the years since I got my license, I have done many things both with and without amateur radio, sometimes neglecting my hobby and getting away from it for a while. I went nearly two years without having a radio in my vehicle! ::gasp:: I know, hard to believe right. Well, anyway, much has happened in my life over the past year and I have had to cut back on my extracurricular activities. So I have pulled back everything except for my amateur radio hobby.
However, one thing that I have ALWAYS wanted to do was to write something; A book, a blog, something. Throughout my reading about writing, one of the things that was said over and over again was to write about what you know. So, I asked myself what do I write about? Well, there is two things that I have the most experience in. The first is my career in 911 dispatching. After thinking about it for a while, and thinking about what kind of blog entries I could write that would appeal to others, I decided to go with my first love, Amateur Radio.
I can think of so much more stuff to write about that will hopefully appeal to more people. On top of this, as I’m writing new entries, I can learn stuff myself to pass on to my club. So it’s a win-win situation!
